IMAGINATION FOR THE BUSINESS MIND: THE GIBS MBA ELECTIVE

“Thank you for a magnificent contribution to our Leadership Development Forum.  The feedback from all participants was that the Forum was a resounding success - and you have played a big part in it.  We are planning a second one for the end of August, and I would like to invite you to work with us again.  I will advise on the exact timing in due course.”  — Dr Louis Carstens, Head of Strategy African Bank. (2007)  “Just a short note to say congratulations on the feedback from your elective which I have just seen. Really exceptional feedback. With best wishes.” — Prof Nick Binedell, CEO Gordon Institute of Business Science. (2008) ‘Thank you for your course this past weekend. I really found it stimulating and it brought a facet to the MBA that was missing in so many other courses. It may not have been seen as a conventional course - but was certainly value adding to my MBA experience.’’  Grant Little, class of 06.

Imagination for the Business Mind’ is a highly successful elective for the Gordon Institute of Business Science’s MBA Programme, first offered in 2006. Modules have since become integrated into the African Bank/Ellerines Leadership Development Forum. Other clients include Standard Bank, Corporate and Investment Banking’s Global Credit Analytics and Portfolio Reporting Team and Sanlam’s Innovator Awards Group. The purpose of the elective is to widen the intellectual horizons of business leaders and help them Think Differently I use the arts to prompt the imagination. In one of the modules participants use a sculpture toolbox to create concpetual selfportraits. The purpose of the exercise is to foster powers of abstraction and conceptualisation.  Illustrations clockwise from top left : Look and listen, Lucky Strike, Introspection, Centurion. Resources.
